Hi Victoria, I really enjoyed reading your post. I am from King Township just 10 minutes from Newmarket, so I really connect with your comparison to small towns and cities like New York and Toronto. It is interesting to observe how smaller towns are typically more conservative than larger cities, and like you said education can be a huge factor in helping smaller communities become more inclusive.
Although Toronto is a very diverse city and has been the center of many social movements in Canada, it is interesting to observe that in many ways it is still very conservative, the most obvious example being the politicians who run the city. Hopefully, with time Toronto will have more diverse and liberal minded councilors.
